Morel Season

So far, things have been going pretty good! I've got a solid gallon and a half of dried morels so far.  Unfortunately, a week of really hot weather is shutting me down.  Time to start chasing the snowline!

A meager day

But it all tends to add up

The last good score was on Saturday!

Sarah's Photojournal of Kauai

The following is Sarah's photo journal of our honeymoon in Kauai.  I tried not to duplicate too many photos ops from my last post, but some were just too nice not to include.

The wonderful view from our condo

Our living room

Our kitchen / "dining" area

Pretty room

And we both liked the clever shades

The hills by Polihale beach.  We heard a goat up there somewhere.

Niihau off in the distance

Trying to figure out how NOT to be scared of the "treacherous currents"

It was weird, there was a rise out there.  You could stand alright, but the waves CRASHED on you.

The ever common rooster.  All they said was, "They took our jobs!"

Here's a sign for Niihau

This photo is intriguing.  The trail in the background is the one we took.

As you can see, it's doing it's job over there.

I desperately wanted to figure out a way to walk down there

You'll see this pose again

Ooh, I'm glad Sarah got a photo of the jungle.  Again, I wanted to explore!

The infamous kayaking trip.  Notice New Jersey dogging us.

Da sweetie paddlin'

And posing

"The only snake in Hawaii."  Quite the vine eh?

This is a nice shot of the "jungle" we were walking through to the falls.

I'm probably going to butcher this...but I think this was called a "walking tree."  It will actually move using those roots (over the course of years)....to walk to a more suitable environment!  See how it's actually moved to the left a couple feet already?

Sarah's view on the kayak

This was the terrible "water crossing" that we needed good wading shoes for.  *sigh*  On the way out, I just took off my boots and did the rest barefoot.

So, this is a little re-created village.  Note the first little bay, that's where we parked.  Then we drove back to the ocean and paddled to the next inlet up beyond there.  (ie...we coulda walked from where we parked.)

A nice view of the Queen's favorite river

Well, we went to Walmart after returning to Lihue.  This photo is for a buddy of mine here.  Who knew there were so many types of spam!?

No.  I'm NOT the whale in the speedo.  I wanted to get beyond that sign where most of the fish were, but that sign is telling me I couldn't.

Just bizarre that this is a sign.

The so-so sunset at Spouting Horn.

Told you I did this pose a lot!

A chicken "narfing" at the picnic table

Yep, feral cats wouldn't give me the time of day...looks kinda like Tate...

But, they were just as conceited as house cats

And here's probably the best shot of the swimming turtles that either of us got!

Well, it's hard looking at these photos then gazing longingly out at all the rain we're getting now.  At least in Kauai I could get out in it!  Right now I have morels and shooting on the brain....makes it pretty hard to stay inside.  But I have to tell you, having quiet, lazy mornings on the porch in the first photo was pretty darn nice!
