August what?
Alright, not sure what's going on with time anymore. Seems like with the weather change, August and the rest of what I expected to be an "Indian Summer" is lost. Who knows, maybe it'll pick up again. But hunting season is upon us and so I must shift gears, whether I'm ready for it or not! Seriously, bow season begins this Saturday. I need arrows re-fletched, still would have to practice, still get my gear in order...not looking like it'll happen. However, I have found a herd in a place I'd like to hunt, and since Butch HAS been practicing with his bow, I may see how a little guiding goes. Ahh, it's pleasant country to be in, so it shouldn't be too big of a deal.
But otherwise. In the last couple of weeks, again, I haven't been idle. I think work is kicking my butt with wanting to get online and work on the computer....after work. A couple weekends ago Sarah and I drove to the St. Joe LATE friday night, in a downpour / thunderstorm. There was absolutely NO WHERE to camp...I mean people were camping on asphalt pullouts on the side of the road! We nearly did that, but me...shoot, I'd get to the end of the road first, then go back to figure out what the best spot was. Luckily, we found a place in a horse camp. And it turned out to be a nice place...so we stayed there for two nights. No dinner, no fire. Set up the tent and hunker on friday night. Interesting. Then the fishing kinda sucked because the river was getting rushed by many fisherman. No worries. Saturday night, after a slug through swamps and brush...we enjoyed ourselves just hanging out in camp. Same went for Sunday morning. The clouds were moving in again, so we opted to have some well-deserved time off.
Following that was a weekend to Missoula. I wasn't going to go to the 10-year high school reunion, so didn't. Caught a lot of hell for that, so I'm not going into it here. Nicole and Dustin were in from Rapid City so they, plus Zach, and my folks, all got to meet Sarah though, so that was cool. We poked around on Sunday and made our way home.
Last weekend we decided to take off of GOING. Friday turned into a night on the town. Many of my co-workers are having as rough a time as I am, so we lit it up. Saturday was mellow and I got into the woods to scout...after a couple sweaty hours of bushwacking, I decided I had enough. Didn't hear or see ANYTHING. Squirrels I guess...but they aren't really challenging to hunt. Sunday was "clean the house day" followed by a small hike...then I happened into a cherry larch that I proceeded to cut down, up, and load in the truck for Butch. Didn't get home until around 1900. THEN, the work week began all over again.
I'll tell ya, things are hectic and stressful. Not sure I'm enjoying it all right now. Everything needs to CALM DOWN. I'm definitely looking forward to a couple weeks off come October!
Here are some photos from the St. Joe.
Our camp
Had to make it look like we had livestock!
Nice camp though
Just interesting
Good Saturday night view. We saw elk on the hill that night.
Sorry this is a downer. Just too much happening at once.
